Standard modular saunas collapse under the weight of mountain snow or lose critical thermal capacity when temperatures plunge below -20°C. Our structures are fully compliant with the 2024 BC Building Code (BCBC), ensuring that deck joist modifications, structural foundations, and high-temperature flue penetrations are fully engineered and licensed.

Structural Specifications & Thermal Envelope

1. Alpine Snow-Load Structural Engineering

We analyze existing deck foundations to calculate structural capacity. Alpine builds require framing capable of bearing up to 12.0 kPa of ground snow load (Sg). Suna Spa saunas incorporate heavy-timber Douglas Fir posts, steel structural reinforcing ties, and ledger integrations engineered by licensed experts to guarantee stability.

2. Sub-Zero R-30 Thermal Envelope

To support rapid heat generation and steady-state maintenance of 90°C (194°F) while exterior temperatures drop to sub-zero levels, we deploy a multi-layered vapor-sealed envelope. Our design features custom-profiled, slow-grown Western Red Cedar interior cladding, foil-backed thermal barriers, and bio-based R-30 rockwool insulation. This prevents condensation and structural wood rot.

3. High-Volume Wood-Burning Stove & Safe Flue Penetrations

We integrate heavy-duty, off-grid wood-burning heaters (such as Harvia Legend or Iki) with high-capacity rock chambers. Fire safety is non-negotiable: our chimney assemblies utilize triple-walled stainless steel flue pipes, high-temperature structural ceiling support boxes, and exact non-combustible clearances matching UL standards.
